"Good Design Is Something You Want." - Rob Walker
We as designers have the unique ability to understand the needs of the people we are creating for. People want simple design that is easy to understand, design that is interesting but doesn't make the consumer/user feel stupid because it was made to be too difficult to figure out. This concept is talked about and expanded upon in the documentary "Objectified."
"It sounds bizarre, but I think designers understand what people need, perhaps even better than they do, on questions of ergonomics, on how to organize their space. A central goal in design is to create an appropriate environment where people feel good." - Erwan Bouroullec

- Objects on the desk
I created this design with simplicity and functionality in mind. It was based off the idea that something with a simple appearance could suit the needs of a person better, even if it isn't necessarily aesthetically pleasing. The bookshelf and attached desk both serve their purpose, to hold objects and be used as a workspace. If the user wanted anything added appearance-wise, they could add it, like the plant on the desk or the dice on the shelf. It was inspired by my own desk setup, and the ideal of the documentary that having simpler designs can be better for both the designer and the consumer.
